Drug offenses are one of the most common types of offenses in Texas. In a recent case our team handled, a client came to us for help after being accused of possession of a controlled substance, a felony crime. According to the Texas Health and Safety Code, there are different levels of drug possession. The type of drug and the amount found in the person's possession will determine the types of charges and penalties the individual could be facing.
Since our client was facing felony drug possession charges, they could have been sentenced from anywhere from 10 years in prison to 99 years in prison. They also could have been facing a fine of up to $100,000. We were able to get their charges reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor and so the penalties also significantly decreased.
